Grown from passion
What began in 1995 with a small ski school and a lot of passion is now a family business that supports every aspect of your ski day at Lachtal.
The foundation was laid by our boss and ski school director Norbert and his wife Sabine when they took over the ski school rights from the Haas family. With plenty of initiative and attention to detail, they created a small ski school hut with a guest office and a lounge for our instructors, as well as a dedicated children's area. Year after year, more guests discovered Lachtal as an ideal family ski resort – and our ski school grew right along with them.
With the purchase of the Schmidhofer family's ski rental shop, our services expanded to include another key area. In 2009, our current sports shop with ski rental and ski school office was built – right where our first little ski school hut once stood. Since then, our business has steadily grown and evolved.
2007 saw the creation of another passion project: the Sonn’Alm. Originally intended as an additional rental location, it quickly developed into a popular spot for snacks and full meals. Today, it is run by a tenant with whom we look forward to a successful season every year.
We also wanted to ensure the perfect end to a ski day at Lachtal: in 2012/13, our family added its first après-ski venue with a rotating umbrella bar. The great atmosphere and enthusiastic guests quickly showed that après-ski has a firm place at Lachtal. In 2017, the umbrella bar was replaced by our current après-ski hut, “Oben Ohne”. Why is it called that? The best way to find out is to pay us a visit.
Today, that small ski school has become a family business with several pillars. The next generation is also fully involved: our daughters Yvonne and Marie-Therese, as well as our son-in-law Alexander, contribute their heart and soul to our operations and help shape our future development. Another personal milestone for Marie-Therese was completing her state-certified ski instructor training in 2026.
What has remained over all these years is our passion for Lachtal, winter sports, and, above all, our guests. Our family has long since grown beyond just us: many of our staff have been with us for years, have become friends, and play a vital role in our story through their dedication.
